I attended SFU’s miniBig Career fair in my capacity as Senior Recruiter HMCS DISCOVERY. It was slow to get started, and most students would just scurry by between class, barely noticing we where there, or as one of my recruiters put it “it was like trying to sell strawberries at the side of the highway” nobody was stopping. Thankfully it picked up as the day progressed, and we had a few prospects that may follow up.
The career fair also provided me with an opportunity to do some networking of my own. I had the fortune of meeting with a few potential employers looking to hire people with my skills and experience. It is always good to look at what other employers are doing and what they are hiring for; you never know what you may learn or what opportunities it may open up.
